Mixtec Garden at the Heart of Linda Vista

Who we are?

The Mixtec Community Garden was born in 2016 in Linda Vista, as a dream of the Mixtec community to create a space to grow food, share traditions, and keep cultural roots alive. Here we cultivate the milpa—corn, beans, squash, and more—following ancestral wisdom that teaches us to care for the earth and for one another.

The garden is more than cultivation: it is a gathering place where we speak our languages, share our stories, and strengthen our identity. From this community sowing, a trilingual multimedia book in Tu’un Savi, Spanish, and English was also created, preserving recipes, memories, and celebrations, and carrying our legacy into future generations.

“Every leaf, every seed, and every voice in the garden are part of a larger story: a story about remembering who we are, caring for the earth, and growing together.”
