Yoo Chi’i, The Month of Planting

  • ACCESS COMMUNITY CENTER Daniel Avenue San Diego, CA, 92111 United States (mapa)

During “The Month of Planting” (Yoo Chi’i), participants had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in ancestral knowledge around planting the Milpa. Attendees learned first-hand about the dedication and expertise of Dr. Carmen Cariño Trujillo, originally from Chila de las Flores, Mexico. Dr. Cariño actively collaborates with groups that defend land and territory, working closely with Indigenous and farm-working women.

The event also highlighted the longstanding efforts of Jardín Mixteco, an organization that has been nurturing community land stewardship for over eight years. Guests enjoyed a variety of traditional Oaxacan dishes, making this gathering a rich celebration of culture, resilience, and indigenous agricultural traditions.
